What about vintage 2015?

What about vintage 2015?

Every vintage is different; this is what’s charming about wine.

We discover a new wine every year. But do you know why they are different? The main element is the climate. We can’t control temperature and weather but we have to adapt our way to work in the vineyard and our winemaking process to it.

In 2015, in South French Brittany, winter has been cool until April. Budding happened quiet late which avoided spring frost (the biggest threat for a wine grower because it kills buds and destroy the potential to have fruit). Then, we got a warm with moderate rains. Summer was particularly shining, especially in July. Conditions were great as vines don’t like big variation of temperature. Same thing for water; but this year it did not rain enough during the summer and the vines were stressed by a lack of water. Luckily we got some rains beginning of September.

This water has accelerated the maturity of the grapes, which were ready for harvest on September 8th. We have harvested in 3 weeks taking into account the differences of maturity between our parcels.  We finished with hand harvests on September 30th.

The part of vines we harvest by hand is increasing every year. We privilege this practice in Chateau de Chasseloir and Chateau l’Oiselinière de la Ramée in order to produce our high hand Cuvées. Unlike the machine, we are able to make a selection and keep only the best berries.

2015 is a good vintage which gathers quantity and quality.
